Racing Roundup 13.03.2023

🟧⬛️🟧Racing Roundup🟧⬛️🟧

Congratulations to all our athletes who raced this weekend.

🟧 First up was the Leinster Indoor T&F Championships where we had junior, senior and master success. In the junior section, Eleanor Foot, Niamh Murray, Bobby Moore and Max Singleton raced and came home with a selection of gold and bronze medals and a couple of PBs to boot.

⬛️ Drew Donohoe is proving to be a strong and canny racer, edging ever closer to the magic sub 2 min mark in the Senior 800m race (Drew is still very much u/23) with another shiny new PB of 2:00.3 🧡

🟧 In the Masters categories, Dominic Horan and Ashling Smith took home the honours with silver in their 1500m races. Later in the day, Ashling added gold in the F50 800m race.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who made this weekend happen. We couldn’t do it without you. 🧡

🟧⬛️🟧 Ollie Castle had a fabulous run in the National Canicross Series race, finishing second 🖤

⬛️ And in Bohermeen today, we had a small but fabulous contingent with Suzanne Foot finishing 3rd F50 in a super 1:31.16. Thomas Conway finished in 1:27.27 and was followed home by Lee Borland in 1:34.55, Kieran O’Leary in 1:35.32, Paul O’Dwyer in 1:36.24, Karol O’Loinsigh in 1:47.36 and Ciara Carter in 1:56.19. Well done all! 🧡

🟦🟧🟦 Finally congrats to our fellow Wicklow athletes in Sli Cualann! Brian Geraghty, Alan Duffy, Catherine O’Connor, Hannah Nolan, Debbie Griffin, Rachel Cole and the evergreen Mary Nolan Hickey all had fabulous runs in Bohermmen too💙🧡💙

Captain's Racing Roundup

It was a busy and successful weekend for Bray Runners AC athletes in Athlone and Trim.

🔸National Masters Indoor Championships
Ashling Smith took home a national bronze in the 1500 metres in a time of 5:22.96.
The ever-present on national stage, Dom Horan, finished in 5th place in the 3000 metres in 10:16.44. Well done to both.
Congratulations also to our fellow Wicklow Master athletes who did the county proud.

🔸 Trim 10 mile
We saw a fantastic turnout of Bray athletes and an array of PBs to match. Thomas Conway, Dan Rakic and Paul Donohoe got deserved PBs, with another few runners not far away from their PBs. Suzanne Foot and Ciara Carter both made impressive returns to racing with Suzanne finishing a fantastic 3rd W50.

🔸 parkrun
As it was pacing week at Shanganagh, there was a strong turnout of Bray athletes, both as pacers and those going all out. A particular shout out to our good friend of the club, Shea Bubendorfer, who ran a PB of 25:27 - taking 7 minutes off his finish time at his first ever 5k only a few months ago. He should be expecting the tap on the shoulder any day now from Bobby.

Annual Awards 2023

Well done to all our award winners on Saturday 28th January at the Bray Runners AC Annual Awards, it seems like years since we had this in person! Thanks to Cyril for doing a splendid job of MC on the night. Thanks to Jackie, our social secretary, for orchestrating a fabulous evening with delicious food and cakes from Cathy

Special thanks to Niamh and Shea who came to present the inaugural Thomas Bubendorfer Award to worthy winner Paul Donohoe a day after what would have been his 53rd birthday 🖤🧡

Thanks as always to Debbie for taking the time to present our photos so beautifully. See comments for slide show

GOAL Mile 2022

Rest In Peace. Thomas Bubendorfer

Our club has been reeling with shock and sadness this month after hearing of the death of one of our members, Thomas Bubendorfer. Thomas was hit by a car while out for a run on Tuesday 6 September.

All who crossed Thomas’ path at Bray Runners AC have been deeply affected by this tragedy. His quiet pragmatism, dry humour and breadth of running lore quickly became a part of the fabric of the club as he (an ultra runner) took part in all aspects of club life, even 600m time trials on the track.

We have had a few opportunities to come together informally since hearing the sad news to commune and share our grief and disbelief. We would like to thank Ratoath AC for facilitating a minute’s silence prior to the start of the National Half Marathon on Saturday 10th September.

Thanks to Mary and PJ Hourihan for their tribute and minute’s silence prior to the start of the Parkrun in Shanganagh Park. Thomas was an integral part of the Bray Runners AC Parkrun Pacing Team and over the last few months assisted many to PBs and target times with his metronomic pacing skills.

Finally, some of our members redirected the Sunday run on Sunday 11th Septepmber along one of Thomas’ favourite routes.

Our thoughts are with Thomas’ wife Niamh, four children and wider family and friends throughout this painful and sad time.
