Race Notices

The Wicklow Senior and Junior C/C  C/ships and the Masters C/C  C/ships are the next 2 important races in our club calender.

Senior and Junior will be held in Shanganagh on 16th DEC. Distances: Men, 10k.....Women, TBC......Junior Boys, 6k.....Junior girls, 4k.

Masters will be held in early January 2013, venue to be confirmed. Distances; men (35 to 64) 7k. 65+ 4k.....Women, 4k. There will be two mens team sections, 35 to 49 and 50 +. Please note that 35 is the entry age to this competition.

Can all athletes make every effort to make themselves available for the above Championship races.

Leinster Novice and Masters C/C takes place on sunday 28th Oct in Avondale, if interested in taking part please contact Vincent at, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  by 18th Oct.

AAI Novice C/C takes place on 9th Dec in Adamstown, Co. Wexford. Online entry only.

Finally, Frank Greally is organising a 5k run in the Phoneix Park,at 11am, on 11th Nov, in memory of friends, family and club members who have passed away. More information when we get it.

Intemediate C/C

The Wicklow Intermediate and uneven ages C/C  C/ships were held in Avondale, Rathdrum, today, 14th Oct. In the mens race Laurance Doyle ran an excellent race to finish 2nd and take the silver medal, great effort since it is only 2 weeks since he ran Berlin marathon. Dominic Horan and Bill Stanley both put in great efforts to finish 7th and 16th respectively. In the womens race our only representive was Valarie Brunton, who due to previous successes was running as a guest. and she finished a long way clear of the rest of the field, a great sign for our womens team for the Senior C/C on 16th Dec. We were very well represented in all the under age events and will put the results up as soon as we have them. Tim Grummell, Inbhear Dee, won the mens race and Hannah Nolan won the womens race.  

Thursday round up

One result from last week ends Cork to Cobh 15mile race, Martin Francis ran 1hr 32m 24s to finish 19th and 1st over 50. On thursday, 11th Oct,  a group of 25 met in our winter training base in Ballywaltrim. There was an information meeting to familarise any new members with our new surroundings and to generally inform runners about what to expect re training over the next few months. Forthcoming races and safety were also discussed. This was followed by a shortened session out on the roads. Full 1hr session from next thursday onwards.

News Update

Please do not forget that thursday training returns to Ballywaltrim this thursday 11th Oct at 6.30. We meet at the clubhouse next to Shoreline swimming pool. There will be an information meeting at 6.30 to inform everyone of the plans for training, routes, races etc, to cover the next 3 months.

Upcoming Races......Sunday 14th Oct, Uneven Ages and Inter Wicklow C/C C/ships, Avondale at 11am.

Date for your diary, Sunday 16th Dec at 11am the Junior and Senior Wicklow Cross/C C/ships will be held in Shanganagh. Mens race will be 10k and the womens race will be 8k. As all our athletes are eligable to compete you are asked to make every effort to do so.

Weekend results, in the Galway Bay 10k Andrea Murphy ran 52.22 and Siobhan Butler ran 49.18, pb.

 

 

 

Urgent Appeal

Over the last couple of weeks there has been a big influx into the Juvenile section of the Club. On average there are now around 100 kids turning up for training each Tuesday. Carmel and her crew are a little overwhelmed and urgently need more helpers. Novice C/C

 The Wicklow Novice and even ages C/C C/ships took place today, 7th Oct, in Roundwood. We were represented in both the womens and mens event and we also had a great turnout in the even age events. In the womens race, Noelle Thorpe continued her excellent season by taking 2nd place and the silver medal, Charlotte Stevens 9th, Collete Mason 13th, Ana Molina 14th, Lorraine O,Rourke 19th and Mary Hourihan 20th earned the Bray Runnners womens team the bronze medal. Well done to Hannah Nolan, Parnells and the Parnells team on winning both the individual and team gold medal.

     In the mens event, Gary Condon, fresh from his Kilomarathon last week, put in a magnificient effort to finish 3rd and take the bronze medal. He was closely followed home by Dominic Horan 13th and Bill Stanley 21st, both running excellent races. Well done to Tim Grummell, Inbhear Dee, on winning the gold medal, and Kilcoole on winning the team event.

Our Club was founded in 1983 primarily as a marathon running club, however over the years we have introduced a juvenile section and cover a wide range of athletic disciplines.
