Wicklow Road C/ships 2016.

The  Wicklow Road C/ships  took place on Wednesday last, 20th April in Ashford. We had 18 athletes taking part, all putting in fine performances. We took home 8 individual medals, 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze.

Gary Condon, returning from injury, finished 3rd overall and was 1st 0/40. Dominic Horan won the 0/45 Category in 17.03, Suzanne Foot, fresh rom her National Relay gold, ran 18.32 to finish 3rd woman and 1st in her Age Category. Jean O'Kennedy also won Gold in her age Cat, running a Pb of 22.42 and Mary Deery also recorded a Pb of 25.31, in winning her age Cat. Tom Cavanagh ran 21.42 to take silver in the 0/60 Cat, Tom had a great battle with William Belton, Roundwood AC, just losing out by a mere 2 seconds. There were bronze medals for Emer Hynes, 24.34 and Mary O'Connor 28.01.

Joe Cawley, completed his preparations for London Marathon in running 17.14, Colm O'Heigeartaigh, 17.35,  ran another PB, Bill Stanley, 18.04, Paul Allen, 18.15, also ran a new Pb. Gordon McWilliams, 21.36, Niamh Coffey 24.42, PB, Stefanie Unland 25.24 was another to record a Pb, Elaine Nuzun, 29.14; Jackie O'Neill, 30.29, and it was great to see Ana Molina, 29.52  back after being out for a number of months. Well done to all and a big thank you to all those who came out to support the athletes.

Tim Grummell, 16.29 was first man home and Fionnuala McCormack, 16.49 was first woman to cross the line.

Ashling, Suzanne and Carol Costello Win National Relay C/ships.

The National Relay C/ships took place on Sunday last 17th April in it usual venue of Raheny. We had 2 athletes, representing Sli Cualann, on the women's masters (35/49) team. Ashling Smith would run the 1st leg (1mile), Suzanne Foot would run the 2nd leg (2mile) and Carol Costello, Greystones AC, would run the final 1mile leg. The girls have targeted this race since finishing 4th in 2015, and have worked extremely hard in training, especially over the past 3 months. They were rewarded with a thrilling victory, in what was a fantastic race. Ashling ran the first leg in 5.45, Suzanne ran 11.42 for 2 mile leg and Carol brought the team home in 5.52, 3 seconds ahead of  the 2nd placed team of Drogheda and District AC. Congratulations to all concerned, coaches, mentors and panel members.

Congratulations also go to the Sli Cualann Senior women's team who finished in a very impressive 3rd place. Richael Browne ran the first leg in 5.32, Deirdre Byrne ran leg 2 in 10.38 and Emma O'Brien finished with a very impressive 5.16. Again well done to all concerned.  

Leg It For Lakers, Roundwood 23rd April

Roundwood Reservoir 10km Run” in aid of Lakers is back for another year. This wonderful event is taking place on Saturday the 23rd April 2016, with the run starting at 10.30am. This run is simply amazing; you will be in the highest village in Ireland yet running possibly the flattest 10K trail (except for one little section of steps). You will not believe the views and tranquillity of this course. This event is ideal for runners, joggers & walkers of all levels and an excellent opportunity to try trail running for the first time. This run is mostly trail with some uneven surfaces. No special runners required!
There will be post-race refreshments and BBQ, where you can enjoy one of Latchie’s famous burgers at The Roundwood Parish Hall while cooling down and unwinding!!
Lakers Social & Recreational Club is a community-based sports, social and recreation club for children and adults with an intellectual disability. The club provides a wide range of sporting and educational services to its 280 members aged 5 to 75. The funds raised from this event will help us to run our daily activities.
CASH Prize for 1st & 2nd Male and Female.

Neil Runs 2.26 in Rotherdam Marathon

Congratulations to all our athletes who raced over the weekend. Fantastic performances all round. Today in the Rotherdam Marathon, Neil Wiktorski ran a brilliant 2hr.26.41, a fantastic time. Great runs also from Joe Kelly, 3hr.03.06 and James Nangle, 3hr.13.30. Georgina Devlin also had a smashing run, 3hr.30.32 a huge Pb. Andrea Murphy, 4hr.06.43, just outside her Pb. Helen Barry, using it as a training run, ran 3hr 16.
In the Manchester Marathon, Dominic Horan ran a excellent new Pb of 2hr.55.51. over 2mins off his previous best.
At the K Club 10k on Saturday, Suzanne Foot was 3rd woman home in an excellent new Pb of 38.45. Joe Cawley aslo recorded a new Pb, 34.21, Colm O'Heigeartaigh, 36.43, was another to run a new Pb. Bill Stanley ran a fine 37.57 and Richard Kavanagh ran 42.00. Bobby Mitchell was just over 40mins and Cathy Mitchell had a great run on her return from injury. Ian McGrath, Kilcoole AC, also had a fine run, well under 34mins. (awaiting official times).
Paul Allen ran 40.20, in tough conditions, in the Great Ireland 10k Run earlier today. Well done to all Sli Cualann athletes who took part.

Thursday Training Returns to Shanganagh

Thursday Training returns to Shanganagh tomorrow, 31st March. We will meet at the front gates at 7pm. Group 1 will be doing 6x800s and group 2 will be doing a pyramid session.
Reminder, Wicklow 5k Road C/ship will be held on Wed 20th April in Ashford at 7.15pm.
