Thursday 22nd, News

This evening, 22nd Nov.,we had another large attendance at our thursday training, 27 in total. One group did a 6x1k session, with the second group doing a mixed session of both speed and hill work. Great to see Tony back tonight, looking fit and strong. In the second group tonight both Elaine and Georgina were showing great signs of progression. Next week we will be doing a fartleg session on the Club H/cap course. (Club H/cap, 5k, Thursday 6th Dec.).

All athletes are reminded that the courses for the Senior and Masters C/C have been finalised and we will be using the next 3 sundays (9.30am) to familiarise athletes with them. There will be people on hand each Sunday to show people around the course. On Sunday 2nd Dec., Noelle will lead the Senior and Masters ladies panels around their respective courses, please make every effort to come along.

Cross Country update, Joe Cawley recovering well from injury and looks like being ready to start. Valerie confirms she will be available to lead the ladies team. We will publish the ladies panels over the weekend.

We are currently in the process of organising a presentation on strengthening, stretching, core strength etc, to be held on Wednesday 9th January 2013. Full details in next weeks news.

Thursday 15th Nov

On Thursday 15th Nov, we had a very well received talk on nutrition in the Ballywaltrim clubhouse. The talk was delivered by John Baldwin, nutrition expert, and promient member of Kilcoole A.C. The talk was attended by a group of 20 members, all of whom agreed that it was a very well presented and informative evening. Our thanks to John for his time and his excellent presentation.

Sean and Carmel led another group of 10 athletes on a 45 minute session on the roads around Ballywaltrim.

A couple of results to hand, Susan Dowd ran 67.47 in the Run for Newcourt, 8 mile, on saturday 10th Nov, and 50.28 in the Run in the Dark 10k on Wed, 14th nov. Also in the Run in the Dark 10k, Rachel Gilliland ran 41.41, which we believe is a new pb.

Over the next couple of thursday nights we will be doing some speed work as the Wicklow C/C Senior and then Masters approach.

Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards 2012

In April 2012 Dermot Brennan / Carmel Murphy made an application to the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards. Dermot and Carmel thought that the work that they have being doing with the Juvenile section for the past 15 years possibly warranted recognition, and set about applying to Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards. They were successful with their application and were invited to a reception in the Mansion House on September 26th, where over 80 community and voluntary groups across the Greater Dublin Area were awarded grants at the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards ceremony

On behalf of Bray Runners AC Dermot and Carmel were presented with a Bronze certificate and a cheque for €1000.00.

Attending the ceremony among others were Niall Quinn, Michael Carruth, Pete Taylor, Johnny Murtagh.
