On Thursday last, 21st Feb, the 2nd race in the Fit 4life series was held in Rathdrum. It was a 5k race, over a very tough 3 lap course. Niel Wiktorski took the mens race in 16.55 and Valerie Brown won the womens race in 19.34. Charlotte Stevens was 2nd O/50, in 23.20, and a new PB. This was the third time Charlotte has reduced her 5k pb since this race last year. We also had fine performances from Susan Dowd, 23.34, also a new Pb; Collette Mason, 24.43, another new Pb; Diane Doll, 26.10; Elaine Norton, 26.36.
In Kenmare, Co. Kerry, the Wild West Adventure Race (15ml trail) was held on sunday. Mary Dawson, fresh from her fine run in the Barcelona Half Marathon, finished 3rd in the womens race in a time of 2hrs.00.
Thursday training was again well attended last week, 2 groups, both doing 1k repeats. Great to see a couple of our elite runners, Mary and Lar, at training last week. This week we will be doing some hill work, 2 or 3 groups depending on numbers.

The National 50k C/ships were held yesterday (16th feb), at Donarea Forest, Co. Kildare. The race was run over 10 x 5k laps, on a mainly gravel trail, which was very muddy in parts. 107 competitors set out, of which 91 completed the 50k course. The race was won by Barry Minnock of Rathfarnham, in a time of 3hr 05min 02 sec. The womens race was won by Olwyn Dunne, Crusaders, in a time of 4hr 00min 28sec. Ian McGrath finished 7th, 3hr 27min 13 sec, (5ksplits, 21.37;20.22;20.42;20.53;20.43;20.39;20.37;20.36;20.07;20.57) Gary Condon finished 8th in 3hr 27min 55, ( 21.37;20.23; 20.42;20.52;20.43;20.40;20.37;20.36;20.42;21.05). Dominic Horan finished in 56th place and 4th O/45 in a time of 4hr 39min 17sec. ( 24.25;23.13;22.58;22.43;22.41;22.55;23.46;25.30;39.37;51.28;) Well done to all, expecting a full report from Dominic soon.
Another race held yesterday was the BHAA, Garda Cross Country. The mens race was run over 4 miles, Neil Wiktorski finished 5th in 23.20, Bernard Quinn finished in a time of 31.20. Full results on www.bhaa.com
BARCELONA HALF MARATHON.
The Barcelona half marathon was held on Sunday 17th Feb. Mary Dawson put in a fine performance to finish in 1hr 32min 41sec.
A field of over 500 took part in the Enniscorthy 10k today (10th Feb). Bray Runners was well represented with 11 of our athletes taking part. The race is run over a tough hilly course, conditions were reasonably good for racing. The mens race was won by Thomas Fitzpatrick, Talllagh AC, in 30.13, with Maria McCambridge winning the ladies race in 33.38. First of our athletes home was Neil Wiktorski in 13th place, in a time of 33.35. Martin Francis was next, 38.39, followed by Robert Quinn, 39.38; new PB; Richard Kavanagh, 39.47; Suzanne Foot, 40.33, PB and 1st O/40; Sean Clifford, 42.18, 1st O/60; Diarmuid Potts, 42.48; Noelle Thorpe, 44.31;. Leanne Geraghty, 47.32, new PB. Training continues on Thursday evenings from our new headquarters at Bray Head Tce. Attendance remains healthy, with almost 20 athletes taking part last night. Two groups, both doing 90 second hill repeats. Please note that we will continue to use Bray Head Tce. on Thursday evenings, until we can return to Shanganagh. Next Thurday nights session will be a 5k tempo run for group 1 and 3k tempo for group 2. Our training over the next 7 weeks will be aimed at the Wicklow Road Race C/Ships (5k), which will be held on Wednesday 3rd April, Ashford at 7.30.
Enniscorthy 10k normally attracts a large number of our athletes, this year seems to be no different, if you are taking part or taking part in any other race over the weekend, please forward your result to This email address is being protected from spambots.
