• There is something magical about running; after a certain distance, it transcends the body. Then a bit further, it transcends the mind. A bit further yet, and what you have before you, laid bare, is the soul.

Training, Thursday 21stst August.

Another fine turnout at our Thursday training session. It was great to see Noelle, Dolores and Matt return to training after their recent enforced lay offs. We wish them well in their recovery. Martin Francis was also a welcome visitor on the night. We would also like to thank Aishling, who has been training with us for the past couple of Thursdays, for her help with our Fit4life group. Next Thursday session will be, 2k, 2k and 3k for group 1;  2k and 3k for group 2. Thursday 4th Sept will see us hosting Fit4life 5k, if not taking part please come along to help out.

We had a number of athletes take part in the DLR 10k on Monday 4th August. Colm O'Heigeartaigh continued his fine run of form in running 39.33. Suzanne Foot finished 4th Lady in a time of 40.34. Bernard Quinn ran 44.14, 2nd O/55, Charlotte Stevens recorded a new PB of 47.17, over a minute off her previous best for the distance. Charlotte also finished 2nd 0/45. Andrea Murphy continued her build up to Dublin with another solid run, 49.58. Grainne Cunningham, 53.02, also performing well over what is a very tough course. Elaine Nuzun ran a new Pb of 60.45. Not only a new Pb but 3 minutes 57 seconds faster than the same race in 2013. Ana Molina, 61.20, almost 1 minute faster than in 2013. Rachel Daly, running her 1st race for as a Bray Runner, ran 62.30. Well done Rachel and welcome to our club. Denise Cox, 72.35, which was very similar to her time in Dunshaughlin. Well done to all who took part, if we have missed anyone can you let us know at brayrunners@gmail.com

On Friday the annual Kinsale 5 mile took place. Conditions were excellent, torrential rain before, during and after. The mens race was won by Michael Harty, East Cork AC, in 24.50. The womens race was won by Caitriona Jennings, Rathfarnham AC, in 29.17.  Richard Kavanagh ran 32.19, and 1st O/60.

At the recent Donadea Forest Trail 5k, Colm O'Heigeartaigh ran an excellent 19.00. The race was won by Mark Kennealy in 15.15, with Charlotte Kearney, Donadea AC winning the womens race in 18.29.

The inaugural running of the Mullingar 10mile took place last weekend. Angela Ross Innes, running her first race as a Bray Runner ran 1hr 41 08. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Angela and we are sure she will be a great asset to our club in the future. The race was won by Martin Fagan, Mullingar Harriers, in 48.43. Pauline Curly, Tullamore Harriers, took the womens prize in 60.29.

Another new member we would like to welcome to our club is Cara Barry. Cara has been training hard with the Thursday group and like Angela will also be a great asset to the club.

Good luck to all our athletes racing over the Bank Holiday Weekend. The popular Bay 10k always attracts a large number of our athletes and this year is no different.

Rob Heffernan to Get Bronze From 2010 Euros

Rob Heffernan to get another bronze medal due to Russian getting caught?

There is news at the moment that the Russian race walker Stanislav Emelyanov has been caught due to violations to his biological passport. His results since before 2010 will no longer be counted.

In 2010 at the European Championships in Barcelona, Emelyanov won the 20 km walking race. Rob Heffernan finished 4th in that race. If the suspension is confirmed then Rob should be moved up in 3rd place and a bronze medal.

15:45...From Rob Heffernan on Twitter...
Unofficially being told that I  am going to receive the BRONZE medal for Euro Champs 2010 20km after Russian has been done for drugs.

To be confirmed
